Umbral is Spanish for threshold: the exact place where you pass from outside to inside. It also carries the umbra, the deepest, coolest heart of a shadow. In the tropics, shade is not darkness. Shade is life. It cools, protects, nourishes, restores.

We're planting a true food forest of layered fruit trees, guilds, and pollinator gardens that feed the kitchen, teach guests, and grow more abundant every single year.
Swales, rain gardens, and hügelkultur mounds let the land catch and hold its own rain. Resilience against both dry season and flood, designed into the landscape itself.
Ecologists map the land first. Sensitive habitat becomes protected zones and wildlife corridors, and the buildings fit around the forest, never the other way around.
Local hiring, local farmers, local guides paid fairly, and a share of every single stay flowing into a community fund for school gardens, scholarships, and neighborhood programs.
